This year’s Yonex MCFM East of Scotland Under 13 and Under 17 Junior Championships took place at the new Meadowbank Sports Centre on Saturday and the Jack Kane Centre on Sunday where the majority of the semi finals and finals took place. Unfortunately, as a result of the small entry in the Under 13 age groups, all matches were completed on Saturday with the exception of the Under 13 boys’ singles. We look forward to seeing a big rise in the numbers entering the Under 13 events in future years.
We were delighted once again to welcome our new sponsor for the event, Martin Campbell Financial Management and we were very pleased that Martin was able to attend the finals and present the prizes on Sunday. As always, the tournament attracted the top Scottish players from across the country and there were many entertaining and competitive matches throughout the weekend.
Lothian’s Vibha Raman was a double winner in the under 17 age groups, winning the girls’ singles and the girls’ doubles. Callan Short was also a double winner in the under 17s (boys’ doubles and mixed). Charlie Junnor (singles and mixed), Jaagruti Mannem (singles and girls’ doubles) and Shreya Vargheese (girls’ doubles and mixed) were double winners in the under 13 age group.
Lothian continues to be very grateful to Yonex, ably supported by Gannon Sports, who have now sponsored this event for well over 20 years. We also appreciate the support from the members of the Lothian Badminton Group committee and to the Badminton Scotland Court Officials who umpired the finals on the Sunday. We also are very grateful to the players whowere extremely cooperative throughout the whole weekend.
