Yonex East of Scotland Junior Championships 2016
Lothian players featured prominently in this year’s Yonex East of Scotland Junior Championships at Meadowbank Sports Centre on 12th/13th November. We were delighted that the majority of the Scottish Under 19 team, who had recently returned from representing Scotland so creditably at the World Junior Championships in Bilbao, entered the tournament. Not surprisingly, they dominated the under 19 age group, treating us to some high quality badminton in the process.
However, it was not just in the under 19 age group that we saw some highly competitive badminton as spectators were treated to some excellent matches across all the different age groups.
Hamish McCallister was the most successful Lothian player winning the treble in the under 13 age group. Lois Turnbull was the most successful Lothian girl winning two titles also in the under 13 events. Other Lothian winners were Logan Ireland, Eilidh McCallister and Rachel Andrew.
Tournament Referee, Ian Campbell expressed his sincere thanks to Yonex, ably supported by Gannon Sports, who have now sponsored this event for 16 years, to the members of Lothian Badminton Group and the Court Officials of BADMINTONscotland for their assistance during the event, as well as to the players for the high standard of play and the high level of sportsmanship.
Once again, we were delighted to welcome Bill Hogg, Promotions Executive from Yonex UK, to present the prizes.
The Moira Skene trophies, which were presented to the Lothian players considered to have produced the most meritorious performances during the course of the East Junior Championships, were awarded this year to Hamish McCallister and Lois Turnbull who had dominated the under 13 age group.
