With last season’s Championships being cancelled due to Covid 19, we were delighted that this year we were once again able to host the Yonex East of Scotland Championships. This year the tournament is being split over two weekends with the Under 13 and Under 17 age group having taken place on the 9th/10th October and the Under 15 and 19 age groups taking place on the 6th/7th November.
The venue for this year’s events is once again the Jack Kane Centre. There was a very healthy entry for the event and we were delighted to welcome competitors from as far afield as Orkney to Newport in Wales. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing guidance from Badminton Scotland regarding Covid, there was no general access for spectators but as usual, there were some highly competitive games over the course of the weekend.
In the under 13 age group, Lothian player Tushara Senthilrajaram was a triple winner with Arnav Saraswat and Alfie Martin both winning two events. In the under 17 age group, Katrina Chan and Josh Taylor both won two events. Other Lothian winners in the tournament were Finlay Jack (U17 boys’ singles), Ishbel McCallister (U17 girls’ doubles with Katrina Chan) and Ingrid Wang (U13 girls’ doubles with Tushara Senthilrajaram).
