Lothian had lots of great results at the U13/U17/U21 Scottish National Championships.
U21
Defending champions, Alistair Gordon and Julie MacPherson came runner up in the U21 mixed after a very close, 49 minute long match to Robert Dunn and Holly Newall. Julie MacPherson then took the women’s singles and women’s doubles title, just missing out on a title treble. Alistair made another appearance in the U21 men’s doubles but couldn’t overcome top seeds Alex Dunn and Jack Stevenson.
U17
Calum Atterbury and his partner, Robbie Patterson took on Christopher and Matthew Grimley but despite a strong first game, couldn’t convert the second and came runner up. Calum also made the mixed final with another Lothian player, Rachel Andrew but lost to Ciara Torrence and his doubles partner, Robbie. Rachel Cameron made the semi-finals of the girls singles but couldn’t defeat eventual winner Lauren Middleton. In the girls doubles finals, Lily Farnood paired up with Lauren but couldn’t beat top seeds Ciara Torrence and Sarah Sidebottom.
U13
Euan Campbell won both the singles and then the doubles with Andrew Evan when they beat Lewis Hart and Callum Stokes. In the girls singles, Lois Turnbull made it to the final but couldn’t beat Lindsay Ireland who had also beaten another Lothian player, Catherine Holland on the way there. Catherine fought back in the girls doubles however and with Tranent’s Amanda Martin beat Lindsay Ireland and Mary Kong in three games. Mary Kong took the mixed title after the top seeds pull out due to injury.
